Coasters

Some time ago I made a post and rail table runner as a gift and I had some scraps left over. The couple use the runner all the time so I made them a set of eight coasters to go with it. Unfortunately I only had a very small piece of the red with the beige spot left.

The Babysitter and the Playgroup.

As I was heading out this morning for supplies I noticed a cow seemed to be watching over several of our new Autumn calves. When I returned the cow had moved away but there was a larger group of the calves gathered together.  I approached them for a photo but they all took off down the paddock. We have had a problem with milk fever this year, but there is only one cow left to calve and we have started feeding hay.

My Dessert

We had a fun, food and footy weekend in Melbourne enjoying a Sunday Smorgasboard with a couple of our favourite people. Our meal was wonderful and usually I don't eat sweet things but I did try some of the desserts. Thank you dear friends for inviting us.

Autumn Fun

I saw some pictures on the internet of felted acorns and decided to make some myself as an Autumn decoration. When our chilren were little they would collect acorns and we would draw  faces on them. The blogger who provided the instructions had made the felted beads  with her children and they had gone on to make a whole village of acorn people, building houses for them with their wooden blocks.

From the Garden

I don't believe it! This time last week it was cold and wet with snow on the mountains. Today we are in shorts again and the veg garden has had a resurgence producing freezing quantities of beans and lots of salad tomatoes. I love Autumn.

Images and Information

'The Baby is Asleep" Albert Roelofs
For me, the best thing about the internet is finding all sorts of images and imformation. By Blogging, many people generously share their skill, knowledge and experience with everyone. I was recently researching the best sizes for crib, bassinet and cot quilts. One blogger had made many quilts as gifts and listed the standard sizes in metric and imperial. She also expressed her opinion about making a quilt as a gift for a new baby, claiming that smaller ones were a waste of effort because of their limited use. She felt the larger cot and single bed sizes were the better option.

Perhaps the effort depends on the recipient, I made this little quilt using the last pieces of my most favourite fabrics and quilted it quite robustly. It has some blue in it, but also some tiny flowers so it is not gender specific. The brighter colours make a nice change from pastels. It machine washed well so hopefully the new Mum will find it practical and useful. Welcome beautiful Baby.

Brrr! Its cold today!

It is very cold here today, we have the fire lit and I have heard there has been snow on Mt Baw Baw. Just right for making muffins and a quick project. The little fabric organiser box is from  the blog Pink Penguin ayumills.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/12-gifts-of-christmas-blog-hop.html

Happy Easter

Frangipani Success!

I have had this Frangipani for a few years and it was flowering when I bought it, but no flowers since. So I gave it some potash in the Spring and I have been watching it over the past weeks come into bloom.

"When Acorns Fall"

I have been trying to collect a few acorns to grow, but the rats and the possums have been eating them. So I have made some net bags and tied them over acorns on the lower branches and and I have a few saved now. Our Oaktrees are mostly evergreen and never lose all their leaves at once. We also have some Pinoaks and their acorns are very small and difficult to find.

The tiny acorns at the front are from the Pinoaks.
