It is a lovely bright Winter's day here and all the Camellias have been very colourful this year. Unfortunately I am not sure of all their names.

Frangipani Success!

I have had this Frangipani for a few years and it was flowering when I bought it, but no flowers since. So I gave it some potash in the Spring and I have been watching it over the past weeks come into bloom.

"When Acorns Fall"

I have been trying to collect a few acorns to grow, but the rats and the possums have been eating them. So I have made some net bags and tied them over acorns on the lower branches and and I have a few saved now. Our Oaktrees are mostly evergreen and never lose all their leaves at once. We also have some Pinoaks and their acorns are very small and difficult to find.

The tiny acorns at the front are from the Pinoaks.

"For every Bird a Nest"

We have a large garden with an abundance of places for the birds to nest, so why has this one built in Tom's farm coat that is hanging up on the back porch not two metres from the back door? Nique discovered it on the weekend and tells me there are three eggs in it. I haven't been brave enough to look too closely because an angry little bird flys out and chatters very crossly at me if I get too close.

"For every Bird a Nest"  is by Emily Dickinson.

An Unexpected Visitor!

A Lost Racing Pigeon
I was heading outside to peg out the washing this morning and this little chap [or lady] was on the back porch. I dashed in to get the camera and it nearly came in the back door. It is very plump and healthy looking and so quiet I hope a fox doesn't get him. I can only ever remember seeing one other lost racing pigeon here before and I hope it finds it's way home again.
