Moomin Quilt

2014 is the 100 year anniversary of Tove Jansson's Birthday. I loved the Finn Family Moomintroll when I was very young, they were very happy creatures full of love and kindness. Tove Jansson's illustrations and stories were beautiful and imaginative. I had no idea that a whole world of merchandise had been created based on her illustrations of the Moomintrolls! There is crockery, cutlery, apparel and fabrics as well as other items available.

This is my second Moomin Quilt, the first one was supposed to be for our very first Grandchild, but (in my ignorance) it was not suitable for a child because it was a log cabin quilted with buttons, so not very safe for a little one. This one however is suitable, being all cotton, robustly quilted and machine washable. The backing was sourced on Etsy from a seller in Finland.

I am very pleased with this Quilt and a lot of love has gone into it's making. Welcome home beautiful baby girl.

Bright Pinwheels, a Finish!

I have just finished this Quilt for the new Grandson of a good friend. The Pinwheel Block is so versatile and 3 x 3 block Quilt is a very useful size, not too big. I always wash the fabrics before cutting and the finished Quilt, all cotton, can be machine washed.

Blankets of Love

As a way of dealing with some sadness in my life at the moment I have been making some Blankets of Love. These are 12 x12" but you can make them larger or even smaller. They are very simple to make being only 2 layers, mine are backed with flannelette in soft pastel colours. I am going to make more but will send these few off soon. One of my favourite places to be is in my loft of our Barn working on quilts or trying to establish some order in my supplies. I get distracted very easily when I am tidying up and start putting fabrics together for new projects. Focusing on making something, especially if it may provide comfort for someone else, takes your mind to a more settled place, not quite meditation but something close.

Modern Baby Quilt

I finished this quilt in good time for a new arrival thinking it was a neutral pattern and colour scheme. It is a Disappearing Nine Patch B...
